Q: Hi Nurse Doza! I saw one of your videos about people who get strep more than once, and I’ve had strep so many times I’ve lost count. Now I have fibromyalgia, IBS and Epstein-Barr. I feel horrible most days, and some days I don’t even want to get out of bed. What can I do?

A: Nurse Doza: Don’t give up! Navigating chronic inflammation and autoimmune disorders can and will be a lifelong battle. Fortunately, there are things that can help. It will require a lifestyle change and a community that will support you through this. But it’s worth it, and I have seen many people in our clinic who have improved their health while living with one if not several autoimmune disorders. We need to build up your immune system and support your nervous system.

This is how to support a person with multiple autoimmune disorders:

1. Find a community that will support the individual. A person will now get better if they do not feel supported.

2. Detox. Everything. Everyday. People. Food. Clothes. Hair care products. Negative thoughts. Trauma. We have held onto a lot of stressors in our life and our body can only handle so much. We need to get as many thoughts, taunts and toxins out of the body as possible. I utilize the liver for this process because that’s what it was designed to do. Diet, supplements and lifestyle can support a liver detox. This is our 14 day liver detox course. And our LIVER BOOST supplement which can help support phase I & II of liver detoxification. These are tools to help you detox your liver. Continue as long as possible for an optimal approach for anti inflammation. Speaking of inflammation…….

3. Take 5000 units of Vitamin D3 daily. Your immune system is basically your vitamin D levels in your blood work. (Optimal Vitamin D is 60-80). Vitamin D deficiency can lead to the development of autoimmune disorders but I have seen autoimmune inflammation managed better when a person has their vitamin D levels > 50. Most people need magnesium and Vitamin K2 to help the Vitamin D3 work better. This is our Vitamin D3 with K2  which can be taken daily and this is our Magnesium powder that you can mix with water and is great for the brain and gut.

4. Repair your gut. Your health starts in your gut and most likely this is the area where pathogens and toxins are still entering the body. The reason is that our colon (large intestines) and small intestines form a “barrier” in the body to help keep certain things out of the body that don’t belong there (think toxins and infections). Years of a highly processed diet can lead to years of leaky gut that would allow a vitamin D deficient individual to be more prone to allowing more pathogens and toxins to enter and destroy the body. This is how autoimmune issues develop. I like fasting, eating local seasonal foods and taking L-glutamine daily. L-glutamine can “patch up” the “holes” in a leaky gut leading to gut repair. Adding seasonal local foods can add healthy starches and natural probiotics back into the gut’s microbiome to help restore this precious communication system to the brain. (FYI antibiotics, processed sugar and gluten all destroy our microbiome).

5. Support the adrenals.  Stress kills. Stress makes your autoimmune and inflammation worse. Your adrenal glands respond to stress. Every time. They release hormones in response to stress. Like Cortisol, Dopamine and Adrenaline. Tally up all the stress (and trauma) a person encountered over a lifetime and we can then begin to see how much Cortisol, Dopamine, Adrenaline and stress hormones an autoimmune person has produced and released. When someone is stuck in “flight or fight “ mode everyday , all day, this whole process is amplified. A person who lives with chronic illness is always stuck in flight or fight mode and never switches to a calm “rest and digest” mode. After a few years, that person is “burnt out” and no amount of treatment or medicine will help until their adrenals get better. Ways to support the adrenal glands: legs on the wall (yoga pose), belly breathing , floatation rooms, binaural beats, and bovine adrenal gland supplements like our ZEN. I have personally seen autoimmune clients’s health improve dramatically when the adrenals start to become supported.

This may seem like a lot….because it is. But this is not only a path but it’s a possible solution. Godspeed and if you need more help: nursedoza.com/consults

Q: I need your help, Nurse Doza! I have gained a lot of weight over the last few years, and now my doctor is telling me that my blood sugar is high. I don't want to become a diabetic, and I don't want to take Ozempic. I hear about fasting and how it can help you with your blood sugar and even weight loss. But I don't know how to fast, and I'm worried that I won't do it the right way. How do I do it correctly, and how often should I be fasting? Thank you for all your info and help!

A: Nurse Doza:  Everyone should fast. All the time. As much as possible. It’s a tool that the body can use to improve our overall health. There are tons of health benefits, and it’s so easy to do that every single adult can do this. Your body was designed to do this.

Fasting (caloric restriction) can help regulate your:

  • Insulin & Blood sugar

  • Appetite & Mood

  • Food cravings

  • Weight

  • Gut

  • Inflammation

  • Hormones

Intermittent fasting (12hr-18hr) is good, but prolonged fasting is better (24hr-72hrs). Those health benefits are amplified in prolonged fasting.

Here’s how to fast:

  1. Know that you are trying to become hungry. For some people, this might take a while.

  2. Eat healthy fat before & after the fast. Healthy fats: eggs, turkey, chicken, salmon, sardines, avocados. Protein and local veggies, and fruits can be added after healthy fats are consumed. Stay away from simple carbs and sugars.

  3. Drink lots of water. Lots. You will be sweating and metabolizing more during the fast. Black coffee & green tea are ok to drink too, but the idea is not to stimulate digestion.

  4. Take your supplements before & after fast. Especially our LIVER BOOST and BERBERINE PLUS, as these can help amplify the detox from the fast (think autophagy).

  1. Working out is encouraged, but don’t overdo it.

  2. Around hour 19-23, you will be hungry. That’s the goal. You should be able to focus at work. If not, break your fast and start over.

  3. Repeat the fast weekly, bi weekly, monthly, or quarterly. Either way, it becomes a practice, and with each fast, you will develop a stronger mindset. Your food cravings might change, too. And yes, you might lose some weight and even improve your blood work, so be sure to check them routinely.

Ask most people who fast how they feel during and after the fast, and they will tell you they feel incredible, fantastic, and amazing. Some report having increased focus and energy during and after the fast.

Let me know what you notice with your fast. And have fun!

Q: Nurse Doza, I have questions about the MTHFR gene. I recently found out I have an issue with this gene, and that it could have been the reason why I have been dealing with mood disorders my whole life. I have started taking folate, but I’m not sure if it’s helping. In fact, I get a headache from it sometimes. Are there other supplements that I can take or should be looking for? Thank you!

A: Nurse Doza: The MTHFR gene has a direct involvement with neurotransmitter production. This valuable gene helps our body make Serotonin and Dopamine. A compromised, or “mutated” MTHFR gene will have a harder time making neurotransmitters.

I believe MTHFR issues can lead to vitamin deficiencies that include Vitamin B9 (folate), Vitamin B12, and Vitamin B6. Most people are already deficient in these vitamins, but a mutated MTHFR gene can exacerbate vitamin deficiencies.

I think the folate (Vitamin B9) you are taking is the right idea, but it needs another ingredient that can help the folate work better.  Vitamins B9, B12, and B6 are all involved in neurotransmitter production, but often, a methyl donor or “catalyst” is needed. Try adding Betaine, or Trimethylglycine. I believe Betaine can “override” poor genetics and allow for better methylation of such vitamins as folate, B12, and B6. This can lead to better Serotonin and Dopamine production. We have Betaine in our sublingual supplement BLISS, which we promote as our no.1 supplement for MTHFR support. Because it’s a sublingual methyl donor, it can help activate Serotonin and Dopamine production quickly. We suggest taking BLISS daily for people with MTHFR issues, as the benefits can be felt immediately (this is why some people take BLISS daily for a natural mood booster!)

It’s possible to live a healthy life with MTHFR issues. I am living proof. Fun fact: I have the worst MTHFR gene. So do both of my parents. And my co-founder, business partner, best friend, and editor of this newsletter Baldo Garza has the worst gene as well. That’s a big reason he and I co-founded MSW Nutrition supplements, because we needed methylated vitamins and supplements for our own health needs. They have helped so, so much. And they have helped many, many other people too, as every one of our MSW nutrition supplements is methylated.

My favorite MSW Nutrition supplements for MTHFR support (and yes you can take all three each day!):

1. BLISS: SAMe & TMG. This supplement should be taken by every person with MTHFR issues.

2. LIVER BOOST: 16 different supplements that support the MTHFR gene’s ability to help the liver make antioxidants. (Yeah, the MTHFR is found in the liver! And yeah, the MTHFR gene helps our liver make our master antioxidant: Glutathione!

3. BOOST: A multivitamin full of methylated B vitamins, amino acids, electrolytes, and minerals. One has caffeine, and one is kid-friendly

Once you find the right supplement combination for your MTHFR needs, your health will be taken to another level. Get ready to optimize!

💡 Success Spotlight

“MTHFR isn’t a life sentence. With the right methylated vitamins, neurotransmitters get the boost they need — and so do you.”

Whether it’s autoimmunity, stubborn weight gain, or low mood from MTHFR, the common thread is inflammation — and how your gut, liver, and hormones respond to it. Every symptom tells the same story: your body is asking for less stress, better detox, and more support.

Start there, and you’ll see changes across every system
