Hello, wonderful community!

I am honored to be a part of your life and have the opportunity to help you and your family learn about health & wellness. It can lead to you experiencing the most out of life! (I love my job!)

Before we get started with this week’s newsletter, I wanted to talk about the excitement that's going on in our online School of Doza. We have been talking about fasting, the benefits, and even how to actually fast the right way.

In fact, our students have been fasting together each week for 36 hours for the last 6 weeks. All of them report health benefits ranging from 15 lbs of weight loss, no fibromyalgia pain, better digestion, deep sleep, more energy, and it’s even helped break poor eating habits.

This is more powerful than Ozempic, and I couldn't be more proud to teach this to you so it can be used as a health tool for you and the rest of your life. If you want to join for free, try a free 7 day trial and join us as we fast together!

Community is what will define how healthy you are and how healthy you can become.

Here’s what we’re covering in this week’s questions:

Thank you for being here.
Now on to the questions!

The holidays are when inflammation, blood sugar issues, and digestion problems tend to spike. Stocking up now gives your body the support it needs to get through December feeling steady — not depleted.

Q: Hello Nurse Doza, I need your help! I am struggling to lose weight. Ozempic isn’t working anymore. Is there anything I can take along with my Ozempic to help? Thank you for your response.

A: Nurse Doza: How much are you trying to lose? 30-60 lbs of healthy weight loss involving diet changes and a personalized lifestyle protocol can take up to a year or two to see the results. Adding Ozempic can accelerate this without any exercise or diet change.  But why does Ozempic work for weight loss? And why doesn't it work? And why do 75% of Ozempic users stop after one year? The answer to all three questions is……Leptin resistance.

Leptin is a fat cell (adipose tissue) hormone that regulates Insulin (think of Leptin as Insulin’s best friend and wingman.) Every time someone is Insulin resistant (1 in 3 adults are), that same person is also Leptin resistant. Leptin’s main role is to “shut down” your appetite after a meal. A Standard American Diet (S.A.D. diet) can raise Insulin so much over time that the body begins to develop Insulin resistance, or the body’s "hesitancy" to release more Insulin as we get older. This also happens with other hormones, including insulin’s best friend, Leptin.

Most people who are struggling to lose weight have Insulin & Leptin resistance even before they are put on Ozempic, Monjuro, or any other GLP-1 medication. Most people like the fact that GLP-1 medications also act as an appetite depressant, which can help with portion control. This makes a person who is already leptin-resistant have even less of an appetite, and this can lead to people overeating while taking Ozempic. This can lead to inflammation, negating weight loss.

Now to your question, because of Leptin resistance, the GLP-1 medication, and the idea that you still might be dealing with inflammation (most likely in the digestive tract), I would focus on:

All three of these nutrients have been shown to help with inflammation, digestion, blood glucose, Insulin, Leptin, liver, brain, and long-term health. But the science goes even deeper; these nutrients can help support your body’s own ability to naturally make GLP-1s. Yes, your intestines actually make GLP-1s naturally, and digestive problems (constipation, acid reflux, leaky gut, gallbladder removal, etc.) can suppress our own production. If you can help repair your gut to help the body make more GLP-1s naturally, I believe this is the answer to your weight loss.

Q:  I hope you get this Nurse Doza! I get sick at this time every year! And I've already been sick twice this year already and needed to take antibiotics. What can I do to keep from getting sick all the time? And if there is anything I can give to my family to help keep them healthy too. Thank you for your help!

A: Nurse Doza: I want you to support your immune system year round going forward. What I am about to tell you can help but it's a complete lifestyle change that needs to be a priority throughout the year, not just during the winter.

People who get sick all the time have a combination of inflammation in the digestive tract, low vitamin D levels and major stress in their life. This is a recipe for disaster and could be the underlying reason why someone gets repeat strep, flu, cold or viral infections every year. Afterall, every day there are pathogens, germs and bugs that are trying to destroy us. Why do we get sick some times of the year and not others?

How to have a stronger immune system (to not get sick as much):

  1. Make sleep a priority

  2. Make daily sunlight a priority

  3. Take vitamin D3 supplements. Daily.

  4. Stop eating junk food & drinking alcohol (these are two of the quickest ways to get sick all the time)

  5. Try to get cold exposure and sweat in the same day as much as possible.

  6. Monthly or weekly water fasts.

  7. Move. daily.

  8. Address any genetic (MTHFR, etc.) and/or nutritional deficiencies (iron, b vitamins, magnesium, zinc, copper, etc.)

My favorite supplements for a strong immune system (take daily):

  1. Vitamin d3 5000 units & Vitamin k2 (our version)

  2. NAC (acetyl l cysteine) (our version)

  3. 8-40 grams of L-glutamine powder with water (our version)

  4. Adrenal support for stress (our version)

Q: Nurse Doza, I am tired all the time. My sleep is horrible, I have no motivation to do anything and I have so much stress in my life right now I feel like I'm going to have a breakdown. I am desperate! What can I do?

A: Nurse Doza: Support your adrenal glands. They are the organs that respond to stress and they have been working overtime for you for many, many, many years. The adrenal glands make stress hormones anytime there is stress (travel, work, money, gems, alcohol, etc.). The main hormones they make during stress are Adrenaline (Epinepherine) and Cortisol and too much of these over time can lead to inflammation, pain, brian fog, depression, addiction and poor sleep. These symptoms appear over time because overused adrenal glands keep the body in flight or fight mode which can lead to a person becoming “burnt out”. Sometimes this is diagnosed as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, or even an autoimmune disorder. Being stuck in “flight or fight” your whole life means you walk around “sick” and all it takes is the weather to change, a few drinks over the weekend, or even the holidays to come around and this can be the “gasoline” poured on top of your already inflamed body.

Supporting your adrenal glands is a complete lifestyle change but you will get your life back. You can have more energy, better focus, better sleep and you might not get sick as much. For older women and men, adrenal support is also the missing piece in hormone support and in most cases, adrenal support helps way more than estrogen or testosterone replacement. Seriously.

How to support your adrenals:

    1. Morning sunlight

    2. Barefeet on ground

    3. Wait 90 mins after waking for caffeine

    4. No phone for 1st 60 mins

    5. Read/journal 10 pages

    6. Listen to binaural beats (try theta and delta frequencies)

  1. Regulate Cortisol better

    1. Morning sunlight

    2. No lights or screen after 8pm

    3. Schedule “energy breaks” at work, during day to go outside and/or walk around/relax/breathe

  2. Find other ways besides sugar and salty snacks to be happy (most people aren't even hungry when they stress eat)

    1. And stop eating late night

    1. This is a measurement found on the Apple watch, Oura ring, whoop and other wearable devices. We want our HRV above >50 during the day and between 80-100 at night while sleeping. (This adrenal support protocol can improve HRV so track yours if you can.)

  3. Daily diaphragmatic “belly” breathing (in the nose, out the nose, all into the belly)

  4. Take bovine adrenal gland as its the closest thing to adrenal hormone replacement. (This is ours called ZEN: start with 1-2x/am and/or pm)

  1. Measure DHEA-s in lab work which reflects the overall health of the adrenals (goal is to have DHEA-s between 150-250)

  2. Cut back on caffeine and/or stimulants, especially early morning or late night

  3. Try the yoga pose “legs on the wall” (try with belly breathing in am/pm or as much and as long as you can!)

You should see improvement within a few weeks to months. If you want a deeper dive into adrenal support, watch our “resetting your adrenal glands in 90 days” podcast. And if you want me to go over your labs and develop your own personalized health plan, book a consult with me.

Dont give up. I am rooting for you.
